EVENT PROGRAM  |  RECOVERY, HEALTH, INTEGRITY, and the PRACTICE OF LAW

A Program for the Massachusetts Legal Community. An open meeting for all those in recovery, interested in learning about recovery, and in support of recovery.

9:00am – 10:00am | Breakfast & Fellowship

10:00am – 10:50am | Practicing Law in Recovery: Balance and Managing Professional Stress | Topics may include:

  • Identifying if you may have a problem and how to get help
  • Practicing law without reliance on substances: It’s a fitness issue!
  • Managing the pressures of a legal practice
  • Building routines that support sobriety and effective law practice
  • The importance of peer support
  • Educating our non-recovering allies

10:50am – 11:00am | Break

11:00am – 11:50am | Ethics, Accountability, and Professional Responsibility in Recovery | Topics may include:

  • How recovery principles align with the ethical duties of lawyers
  • Professional responsibility considerations under Massachusetts SJC Rule 4:01
  • The role of   honesty and humility in recovery and professional responsibility
  • Restoring trust with clients, courts, and colleagues
  • Understanding confidential support available through LCL
  • The role of recovery in preventing professional misconduct

11:50am – 12:00pm | Break

12:00pm – 12:30pm | Service, Leadership, and Long-Term Recovery in the Legal Profession | Topics may include:

  • Maintaining long-term recovery while practicing law
  • Mentoring and supporting other lawyers in recovery
  • Creating recovery-supportive professional environments
  • Service to the profession and recovery community
  • Finding meaning and purpose in both law and recovery

12:30pm – 2:00pm | Lunch & Fellowship

Attendees are invited to continue conversations, build connections within the recovery community of the legal profession, and learn more about available resources.

For those who wish to participate, an open recovery meeting will be held.

Representatives and volunteers from Lawyers Concerned for Lawyers (LCL) will be available to provide information about confidential assistance and peer support opportunities available to members of the Massachusetts legal community.
